Whenever in Spain I end up at a Kiko store, because they always have huge discounts going on when I am around. Lucky me! Last time I bought about 10 different products that I had not tried before, and one of them is a Kiko Eyeshadow Color Sphere in #27 called "Sparkling Cobalt Green".
This shade really appealed to both my sister and I, so it was a done deal. We liked how darkish green it was and from the looks of it, it would look gorgeous on our skin tones. The Sphere Color Eyeshadow collection has 36 shades of baked and silky eyeshadows that are supposed to be very easy to blend on the eyes. They come in round-shaped black holders with the brand written on top in white. A simple, but very pretty design.
The eyeshadow contains a lot of brilliance and shimmer, as you can see all the green sparkling bits sitting around the sides (does a circle have a side?!) of the holder. And you will not see it in this lighting, but when I move the eyeshadow in the sun the green and blue sparkles (yes, even blue) really come out. They shine like crazy. That is when you notice that the main color is not green, but a dark gray/black shade with green, blue, silver sparkles. The first swatch I made confirms this.
As you can see, the swatch looks completely different from how the eyeshadow looks in the holder. On the left, a swatch I made with my index finger, you can see that the color underneath is a soft dark gray bordering on black shade, and on top are green sparkles (notice that there is something else besides green too?). On the right I tried to blend out the swatch as much as possible, and I was left with a very soft gray -so so subtle- and some greenish-silver sparkles. So this is not really similar to what it looks like in the holder, and now the color based on the swatches was also really different from the eyeshadow when applied to my eyes also, haha. I adjusted my color expectations for this eyeshadow twice, but fortunately I am not disappointed.
This is what it ended up looking like on my eyes. I wore the shade as a wash all over my eyes. A gorgeous dark gray with green sparkles that become more obvious when looking at it from up close. From a distance it still sparkles, but the exact color of the sparkle is harder to perceive. And here I thought I was buying a green sparkling eyeshadow. Well, it definitely has green sparkles, but is more of a gray eyeshadow. Nevertheless, I am definitely not disappointed, because now I can make gorgeous smokey looks with this that are softer than when using a black eyeshadow. In a way, I ventured outside of my comfort zone without even knowing it (I rarely buy gray eyeshadows). Each Color Sphere Eyeshadow contains about 1.8 grams/0.06 oz. of product. The eyeshadow is very easy to use, especially when using a brush, but it does require some layering. I imagine that when used wet that the shade intensifies greatly (I will definitely try this out too), but I like the softness of this shade. I bought this shade on sale, but normally the price is very inexpensive too! You can get it for only €5,90! Whaaaat? Yup! Kiko Cosmetics is available in both the Netherlands and Belgium (and many other countries too). What do you think of this shade? Sparkling Cobalt Green was not what I expected, have you had that with an eyeshadow before?
