I am not much of an animal person, but my favorite animal growing up as a child was the dolphin. This was partly because I was able to meet a couple of dolphins and even touch them (their skin was rough, not as I expected), and because they seem very friendly and playful. Oh, what is not to love? Any who, the gorgeous Melissa, from KissandMakeupsBeautyBlog, and I decided to create an animal inspired makeup look this month for our Two Dashes of Glam challenge, so obviously my mind went to dolphins!
Technically, dolphins are grey and white, but whenever they are drawn, they are drawn with shades of blue. That is how I imagined it as well and the picture illustrates the blue of the water beautifully. So those were the colors I wanted to combine on my eyes: a soft grey, light (mermaid-like) blue and a cool blue with a frosty shade in my inner-V! I knew the look would be quite notable, so I kept my cheeks and lips really soft with just a hint of soft and neutral pink.
In my crease and outer-V I applied a dark grey shade called "Gate Crash" from my W7 In The Night palette, which I kept blending until it looked soft enough. Then on top of that I added "Radium", a cool blue eyeshadow from my Urban Decay Book of Shadows vol III palette, and worked towards my lid and outer-V. I blended the two colors together in my crease. The last shade I applied in my inner-V and over the rest of my lid, is called "Haight" from the same palette. I also applied it on my lower lash line together with "Gate Crash". Then I added "Midnight Cowboy Rides Again" on my inner-V for the frosty and sparkling effect! I kept my eyeliner really thin, because I did not want to make the look too heavy, and I applied a glittery pink shade from my new Sleek MakeUp Blush palette (notice the glitters on the top photo), and my Urban Decay Naked lip gloss that I haven't told you about yet (in "Streak"). The look was fairly easy to make. It just is a whole lot of blending.. and I can always rely on Urban Decay to give me gorgeous and deep colors that stand out!
Now Melissa told me she was inspired by the clown fish (you know, like the cute orange ones from Finding Nemo), so I am super curious to find out what her makeup look is like! I have all these wild ideas with white, bright orange and deep black! How do you think she applied those colors into her look? Well, only one way to find out. Check out her look and let me know what you think of our animal inspired creations, and which animal you would go for yourself!
