It seems that Lidl (the supermarket) is really upgrading itself. The other day my boyfriend came back from his parents place and he was raving about how marvelous Lidl looks nowadays and how you can buy all kinds of yummy and fresh products. It was very cute to see him so enthusiastic. Now, it seems that Lidl also has a beauty brand called "Cien Beauty"!
The Cien Beauty Collection consists of lipsticks, lip glosses, foundation, mascaras, and nail polish! The great thing about it is that it is a budget brand, so you can expect the products to cost you little money. For those who do not have loads of money in the pocket.. can still choose from a wide variety of products with Cien Beauty. At least when it comes to lipsticks. I decided to try out five spring-proof lipsticks: "Spicy Red", "Purple Dream", "Hibiscus", "Paradise" and "Sweet Kisses"! Time to take a closer look!
The lipsticks come in simple but pretty holders. They sort of remind me of the E.L.F. lipsticks that I own, because those lipsticks also have a peek-a-boo middle in which you can see the shade of the product. The tubes are simple, but very pretty and the fact that they look so sleek in black makes them somewhat classy looking. The cap comes off easily and then you will see the upper part of the tube is made of plastic (here the budget bit comes into play). For a budget product I think it looks good, so I can not complain about that. Underneath you have the color and name of the lipsticks.. as was expected!
Here are the first swatches. Each Cien lipstick swatch is one layer, so you will notice that some look a tad bit sheer (#23, #21 and #11) but in general they are very pigmented and give off lots of shine. I think they give off lots of product, because the lipsticks are very creamy or buttery in texture. It does not allow for easy application, but it is definitely pigmented. The first three shades are more pinkish and are perfect for spring. The last two seem great for evening looks. Let's take a closer look.
This is #23 called "Sweet Kisses". At first glance this seemed like my favorite color, because it is a shade of pink that I did not have yet. The color just looks so special. There is something deep rosey pink to it. Like it has some hot pink but also some rose pink in there. Am I making sense? It just looks so nice! From the swatch you can tell the shade it quite sheer, but it is very buildable. The second swatch consists of two-three layers. I did not notice how crazy intense the silver shine is until I stood in front of my window in bright day light. With this shade I do like the shine, even though it makes the color a bit harder. I do think this shade sits into the lines of your lips the most, though.. perhaps because I had to use several layers.
Speaking of crazy silver shine... #21 "Hibiscus" has an even stronger one, making this shade look borderline metallic! I think it somewhat looks like porno pink a la Nicki Minaj. Are you thinking about this Silly lipstick too? As a swatch I still really like this shade and I do not think it actually looks that bad on my lips. I should just not wear it with a pink/red-toned shirt! Good thinking, Natasja.
The last pink shade is #22 called "Paradise". It comes close to a hot pink with some purple in there and a strong silver shimmer again. You can see that shine quite clearly on the close-up of my lips. This one has a nice coverage and applies easier than the previous two. Again the silver metallic shine is something for me to get used to (it makes the lipstick colors so hard against my warm skin tone), but I think it could work well with a neutral colored shirt underneath. What do you think?
On to the red shade called #5 or "Spicy Red". I like the name and I like the shade. The red is really deep and intense and has a silver shine to it as well, but it is not as crazy intense as on the pink lipsticks. It is super pigmented, less creamy and more shiny. That works for me! It makes application easy and the pigment is just gorgeous. This shade has definitely become one of my favorites from the five.
Last but not least, the only purple lipstick is #11 called "Purple Dream". It is a very rich shade and leans toward magenta a bit. It actually reminds me of another lip product I own: black metal dahlia. Both shades are a dark burgundy and have a metallic shine. I am pulling a bit of a sour face on that picture, but do not be mistaken.. I am loving this lipstick! I have been wearing it quite a lot, actually. It asks for all the attention so some simple eyeliner and mascara is all I need with it. Oh, and just look at the smooth texture. It sits so nicely on the lips (and a tad bit in the lip lines)!
Cien Lipsticks Overview
Well, I hope this overview makes it clearer. It is a lot of content. I must say that I am surprised with all the lipsticks. They only cost €1,99 a piece and I was not expecting them to give off so much color. They wear pretty well during the day, but you definitely need to reapply them after dinner or drinks. Though for that amount of money I will keep reapplying all day long ha ha. I am really loving "Sweet Kisses", "Spicy Red" and "Purple Dream". The other two left-over pink shades are shades I still have to get used to, because they have such an intense metallic shine to them. Perhaps they would look even nicer on a lighter skin tone. What do yo think? Anywho, next time I will also wear a white shirt when swatching lipsticks ;-)! The lipsticks are pretty impressive too when you compare them with other beauty brands, such as Catrice Cosmetics and Essence! They can definitely hold up their own. Considering this is a Lidl beauty brand, you will be able to find the Cien Beauty Lipsticks and other products at the Lidl supermarket! Are you running towards the supermarket to try out these budget lipsticks? Which shade do you like the most?
