It is not like I need another lip balm, but when I came across the Beautifying Lip Smoother by Catrice I just could not resist. I loved the pink and silver package rightaway and the writing was simple but pretty. I knew I had to try it out... even if I already had plenty of lip balms.
At least the Beautifying Lip Smoother is very different from my other lip balms, because it comes with a flocked-tip and in a squeeze tube, rather than a typical lip balm tube or a small pot container. So you see, my buy is justified! Catrice does not really brand this product as a lip balm though, but as the name says: a lip smoother. The product is supposed to complement the rest of your (heavier) makeup, because it gives you a soft and subtle shine to your lips, whilst smoothing the lips. In theory it reminds me a bit of the Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm by Dior, but this one definitely is less pricey!
I bought this product in the color "030 Cake Pop", but there are two other shades, namely "010 Sweet Caramel", a brownish nude shade, and "020 Apricot Cream" a beige nude shade. I did not get those, because I thought the colors would be too light for my lips and my skin tone, and "Cake Pop" sounds so fun and sweet! The balm has to be squeezed out of the tube and goes through the white flocked tip, which allows for easy (perhaps not tight) application to the lips. "Cake Pop" on the applicator can be described as a fresh and deep pink, but it will become quite sheer on the lips as you can also see on the swatch below.
How beautiful is that? It is definitely the kind of pink that reminds me of sweet candy, perhaps cotton candy! What do you think? The swatch shows that "Cake Pop" is really soft, really sweet, really fresh, sheer and shiny. It feels soft and smooth on the lips, not very sticky at all, but definitely thick. Not only does the texture please me, but so does the scent. It smells like something sweet, almost like caramel. It applies well and evenly on the lips and does not get into the lines of your lips, but, indeed, smoothes them out.
As you can see on the picture above the color seems much lighter and sheerer on my lips, but it still gives them a nice and healthy shade. It nourishes my lips and makes them look slightly larger (the left picture should demonstrate that) and there is no drying effect, whatsoever. For some a downside though, is that this product does contain mineral oils. The Catrice Beautifying Lip Smoother does what is claims. It makes your lips look softer, nourishes, and beautifies, whilst smelling a bit like caramel. It remains on your lips for a long period, so no need to reapply, though its packaging makes it easy to carry with you. You can get it for only €3,59 at the Kruidvat, so it is a great budget buy in my book! What do you think? Does the Beautifying Lip Smoother sound appealing to you too?
