A while back I won the Scandal Eyes Retro Glam Mascara by Rimmel London with giveaway held by Marlies on her blog Golden Mirrors and Pink Bows! I had never considered buying this mascara myself, so I was very happy when I so unexpectedly had the chance to try it! It is a great way to step out of your comfort box or just trying new things!
The Scandal Eyes Retro Glam Mascara must be a sister from the Scandal Eyes Mascaras that come in bright orange holders! Retro Glam comes in a sleek black holder that is similarly shaped to its previously mentioned sister. The vibe the holder gives off is not classy, though. Instead it has a more groovy vibe to it. Errr, groovy? Who still says that?! Well, the circles and black and white color contrast kind of takes me back to the 1960s! This also makes sense, because Rimmel London advertises the mascara as "retro mania, bold, wide-eyed false lash look"! Does that remind you of Twiggy too? The it-model from the 1960s who was known for her big wide-eyed, poppy eyes!
When you open the mascara a huge brush comes out in the shape of an hourglass. I am not very used to such big brushes that come in this shape, but I actually like that it is so big. As long as it applies easily. The holder contains 0.41 fl oz/12 ml of product and mine is in the shade "Black" (#001). All of this sounds very appealing to me. I am always looking for a mascara that will open up my eyes properly and give a bit of a dramatic effect. However, the most important thing to me is volume. Will the Retro Glam Mascara also provide enough volume?! Rimmel London claims it does, so let us look a the swatches.

As you can see on the picture above, the brush divided my messy eye lashes without clumping. On the pictures on the right I am wearing one layer of the mascara on my upper lashes only (the picture below on the right also on my lower lashes). Surprisingly so, the Retro Glam Mascara applies extremely easily to my eyelashes. The hourglass-shaped brush allows for easy access to both the longer and shorter eyelashes without creating a mess, such as clumps. I am really amazed with the lack of clumps no matter how many layers of mascara I applied. The mascara really opens up the eyes, darkens the lashes and gives it a good curl, so you will not need a curler for this. The only downside I can come up with is that I do not think it gives off enough volume. Not nearly enough. I want more. I always want more. So this is something that the brand could improve on!
The Scandal Eyes Retro Glam Mascara has been one of my two go-to mascaras that I always grab whenever I am in need of some mascara. If I want a more natural look, I would go for a different mascara, but I tend to go for wide and open eyes. So if that is what you are looking for too, then you should definitely try out the Retro Glam Mascara! It comes in three shades (as far as I know): "Black", "Extreme Black" and "Carbon Black", or in waterproof. What do you look for in a mascara? Is a groovy wide-eyed look something you want too?
