The W7 palettes have been really popular on the Internet. Their success came from their clear similarities (in eyeshadow and package colors) to the Urban Decay Naked palettes. I have been reading so many positive reviews, but the nude palettes did not really appeal to me, because I have Naked 1 and Naked 3 (and Naked 2 I do not really care about) so I was not interested in getting a similar palette.
However, W7 cosmetics also created the eye color palette called "In The Night: Smokey Eyes" with beautiful purple and brown-toned colors that are meant to be worn in the evening. I was immediately interested in this palette, because it lots of shimmery colors that I want to try out! The palette "In the Buff: Lightly Toasted" is supposed to be a dupe for Naked 1, "In the Buff: Natural Nudes" for Naked 2 and "In The Nude" for Naked 3, but the "in The Night" palette does not seem to be a dupe of any Urban Decay palette.
The palette comes in a tin rectangular shaped holder that is similar to the previous palettes. The holder is a beautiful deep purple color with golden writing on it, which I think looks really classy and somewhat expensive - if it was not a tin box then it could have felt more luxurious too. I suppose this is quite ok considering how cheap the palette is, so I have no problem with it. Besides, in the end the eyeshadows are more important. One thing I should point out, though.. is that the palette smells a bit funny. Not anything bad, just something I can't place. Can you place the scent?!
Inside there are twelve different eyeshadows varying from brown to pink-purple and greyish-black colors. You will also find a double-ended brush in this palette (like in Naked 2 and Naked 3) with a foam tip for applying the eyeshadow and a thin and flat brush for blending the eyeshadows or applying it loosely. I really like that there is a double-ended brush in here, and even though I am not a fan of foam tips for eyeshadows, I do believe that they can be quite handy if you want to create intense looks! On the back of the palette you will find the names of the eyeshadows, but I do not think the colors on the back really match with the colors in the palette or on my skin. I think the colors look a bit darker/browner on my skin, but that makes sense.. because my skin color is brown!
The first color is called "Dusty" and is a soft salmon pink in a matte finish, so this color is great for highlighting the inner corners and just underneath the eyebrows. "Wonderland" has to be my favorite color, you can find a close-up below, because on my skin tone it looks like a rose gold shade with silver sparkles and I absolutely love that!!! I always wanted a shade that came close to rose gold and "Wonderland" does! "Summer" is a soft greyish-greenish brown with silver sparkles. I think this is a rather neutral color for me, but surely I like it.
Then we have "Atlanta", which is a soft lilac/lavender purple, but looks awfully bleak on my skin, so it will work better for highlighting just like "Dusty". A funny name "Abracadabra" but a beautiful satin brown shade that is shimmery like the previous three. Now we have reached the purple-toned eyeshadows more clearly, because "Top Hat" is a color that resembles the color of the palette itself, but I think "Razzamataz" (an even deeper purple shade) comes closer! I am always careful with purple-toned shades because I do not want to look like I have a black eye. Ouch.
Next in line is "Lady Luck" a bright pink with so much silver shimmer that it reminds me of my childhood when I used to play with my barbie. It is a very girly color! With "Laura E" we come across another brown eyeshadow. This color reminds me of copper and has a gorgeous pearly finish. It is a bit more powdery than the average eyeshadow in this palette, but the pigment is amazing. It may just be my second favorite color in this palette! A strange name: "Party Pooper", but alright. It is pearly white with a shimmer and has a frosty feel to it. This color is my typical go-to highlighter for my eyes, but because there is so much shimmer.. you may want to be careful with it, or not, then shine on, you crazy diamond! The second last color "Gate Crash" is a silvery grey eyeshadow with some sparkles in there. This color is a bit more powdery too and has amazing pigment as well. Last but not least is "Bologna", which is a soft grey-black eyeshadow. After all the shimmery eyeshadows we finally have another matte one.
I wanted to emphasize the beauty that is "Wonderland". I have created two looks with this shade already and it just looks so amazing. I do not think I have ever been this excited about an eyeshadow before. Who knew that could happen?! All the swatches were made without any primer on (I always do that, but I feel like I should point it out) but with an eye primer underneath it the colors intensify even more. I have created a look without primer on and it was soft and sweet. The looks with primer were bolder and shined so beautifully. I created several looks that I want to show together, so I will share that with you on wednesday! With primer underneath the eyeshadows stayed on throughout the evening, so the "In The Night" palette by W7 Cosmetics is surely worth the €15, £10 or $7! I think it is a great price for twelve generally well-pigmented colors, so I look forward to the palettes W7 Cosmetics may make in the future. For now I am a fan of this one! What about you? Have you tried this palette before?
