Quick & Easy | Triangle Pastry Pie

My mom can make the best triangle pastry pies (or as we call it "Surinaamse pasteitjes") with yummy filling and she is always so kind to leave the peas out there for me! So when I saw puff pastry in the supermarket I thought I could attempt to make pastry pies as well, like my mom does, but that did not turn out how I imagined.

Instead of trying to copy her pastry pies I decided to just play with whatever was in my home already, because I am a bit easy-going and I do not feel like doing unnecessary shopping when I am just cooking for my boyfriend and myself. Ok ok. You got my excuses. Moving on. The puff pastries I bought were square shaped and you just get them out of the refrigerator and let them get to room temperature.

As it happened I had tiny little shrimpies, so I decided to wok them quickly in a wok pan with cayenne pepper, black pepper, chili and some salt. Once it cooled down a bit I put several shrimpies in one corner of the pastry puff and I added carrots julienne, some fresh herbs and egg noodles (already cooked) to the mix. I forgot to take a picture with everything in there, but below is a picture of the first step. Oh, a nice little touch... I mixed sriracha sauce (salty to spicy sauce) to the egg noodles before placing the egg noodles on top. Conclusion: I just layered it all on top of each other. That was basically it. Ta-da.

I folded the square pastry puffs into triangles and sealed them with my fork. Then I placed them in the oven for about 10 minutes (or whatever the box of the pastry puffs said, you should definitely read that). After that they were ready to eat.. great with chili sauce or even more sriracha sauce, yummy! It took about 30 minutes of work (oven time excluded) and you get an easy and quick snack for when you have a party.. or you know, you are just in the mood for them! The best thing about it is that you can fill it with whatever you like.. I will actually attempt to make my mom's version as well, you know, someday.. for now I will just go with what I have lying around! Do you like triangle pastry puffs? What do you think of this simple recipe? Ok.. I kind of want to eat one of them now...

  1. I like those kind of pies. Not really fan of the shrimps, but some ground beef would be fine for me! :D

These look delicious Natasja! Puff pastry appetizers are among some of my favourite apps to serve at parties. I usually use cheese (love feta!) or vegetables for fillings, but I would not have thought of using egg noodles. The next time I pick up some puff pastry I will try your idea. Thanks for sharing!
