I was tagged by the beautiful and lovely Shayne to do the "My First Time" tag, which is all about your first something.. (get your mind out of the gutter) and I thought this was a great way to be a bit personal by taking a walk down memory lane.
This is an interesting story. I have probably moved about 10 times in my life and most of the moving happened when I was a kid. No worries, this did not have a traumatizing effect on me at all. My first best friend I met when I was about 6 years old and we were both in the same class in primary school. We also happened to be neighbours so I would see a lot of her. My memories of her as a kid were that she was super girly in her standard pink outfits. When I moved away we lost contact and I never saw her again until we met again... in the first year of my first bachelor's degree. She happened to be taking the same degree and the same classes at the same university. We are still great friends today. Talk about living in a small world, huh?
First Record Ever Bought
Well, this is a tough one because I am not quite sure. It will probably be my Britney Spears album (yes, even I have one...) that I still have lying around at my parents' place. Though, I must admit, I was never really a big fan of her, so I still do not fully understand why I bought her album. I did really love the Backstreet Boys, though, and I own two albums by them... also lying around at my parents' place.
First School Crush
The first one that I can remember was a boy who was in the final years of primary school and I simply liked him because he had a cute face and the Nick Carter hair cut from the 90's. That is all I got for you.
First Celebrity Crush
Definitely Nick Carter. I became interested in the Backstreet Boys at a young age, because of my cousin (who is four years my senior) who was obsessed with them... and I just loved Nick Carter's hair cut. I mean, do you remember Leonardo DiCaprio with that hair? Titanic. Basketball Diaries? Boys just looked good with that hair back in the 90's.
This is a story that is very dear to me (oh, such a sentimental person). My parents and I were walking home one night and my dad noticed a parakeet was just standing on the hood of a car and he picked up the parakeet and took it home with us. I named the male parakeet after my baby sister's nurse "Miepje", which is a female name, and I fell in love with him. He was an old parakeet and I could take him out of his cage and just have him sit next to me (or on my hand) as we would watch "Telekids" (a kid's show) every saturday morning.. That is a very fond memory of mine.. unfortunately also a sad one, because one saturday morning he was very tired and did not want to eat or drink. Eventually, I realized he was dying. A learning moment for a kid, I suppose. My parents bought me a new parakeet after "Miepje" had died, because I was so sad.. but nothing compares and there ends the story of my first pet.
Probably my Tamagotchi! If you grew up in the weird 90's then you should still be able to remember this! It was a small device that allowed you to take care of a virtual pet. You would have to feed it, clean it, just take care of it.. to keep it happy and alive. They were so much fun back in the day.. maybe that is where my love of "The Sims" comes from?!
First Big Purchase
I really do not remember this one. I was never given an allowance as a kid, so I did not save up my money to finally buy something I really wanted. If there was something I wanted I would ask my parents and if they felt I deserved it (by being a good little girl) then I might get it.. or not, haha. Nothing too crazy, though.. that is how I got my Tamagotchi and Furby. Remember the latter?
First Blog Post
That is not too long ago.. and luckily I can go all the way back into my archive. My first blog post on Eyes Painted Black is something completely random. I was still testing everything and was not too sure of how personal I wanted things to be and on which interests of mine I should focus... Anywho, it is a brief post on a book, called Disgrace, I happened to be reading at the time. It was an interesting read, so I do recommend it.
First Make Up
It was probably something that was given to me by a relative for my birthday or something. What I remember from my make up as a kid is that it used to be these beauty palettes with eyeshadows, lipsticks and blushes. They were cheap and not well-pigmented at all. However, that does not mean I think back negatively about them. Not at all! It is when I first started playing around with make up and slowly started discovering what works for me.
There you have it.. a couple of my first somethings. I certainly enjoyed thinking back about what life was like as a kid. Things were so much easier, huh? I was more concerned with keeping my Tamagotchi alive or crushing on boys with Nick Carter's hair cut. The good life. What about you? Anyone can feel free to do this tag as well, but I would also like to personally tag Kirsty, Sara, Kimberly, Inez and Rachel!
