The second part of my new beauty travel bag called "The Tarte of Giving" is an eyeshadow palette, which comes in a beautiful purple and golden (remember the colors of the Maracuja Oil?) package. It is really thin, perhaps not even a centimeter, so the colors will reach the pan quicker than normal!
The Tarte Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette may be very thin, but it's pretty big. It has 20 different colors that are grouped together into four groups with similar colors. The first group is very heavy with blue and grey-toned colors. The second group has more green and less blue, there's still a bit of grey in there but it is mixed together with brown. The third group pink and purple colors and feels like a classic color combination to me. The last group has softer and earth-toned colors. As you can tell from the name the palette is infused with Amazonian Clay making the eyeshadows longer lasting on your eyes.
I will start with the first group containing blue and grey-toned colors. Kim's Porcelain Doll is a soft light blue that reminds me of the clouds on a sunny day, unfortunately (or maybe, luckily?) it does not look that way on my skin. It becomes a rather bleak white but slightly blue color. But it is OK, because I will mainly be using this as a highlighter. Jen's Jump Rope is a beautiful matte grey color. Then there is an amazing dark blue with blue shimmers in it called Scott's Skateboard. I think this color will be fun to play with! Even more amazing is Staci's Charm Bracelet; this metallic silver just shimmers so much and would work wonderfully in so many different eye looks. Then the final color, Nuria's Boombox, is a matte black that can be used for smokey looks.
Leigh's Locket is a soft golden color with golden shimmer, but it looks kind of frosty! Candace's Tap Shoes dark grey color but has some brown in there as well. Alli's Bicycle looks grey in the pan, but after I swatched it a beautiful taupe color appeared with silver sparkle. Maureen's Soccer Ball may not look shimmery but that is due to my photography skills - I apologize - because it is a wonderful deep dark brown eyeshadow with golden shimmer. Claire's Cashmere Gloves is a mossy green with a green shine to it.
Steph's Pearl is a typical nude-toned (pinkish) eyeshadow that will serve perfectly as a highlighter. Jess' Storybook is yet another shimmery color, a soft brown with silver sparkles. I would probably use this as a base color a lot. Erica's Dollhouse has a more golden/champagne color with silver sparkles again. Meredith's Hula Hoop is a matte purple color, which when used wrong.. will look like you have a black eye. So be careful there. It still is a beautiful color. Sam's Ice Skates are a deep and dark purple with with a bit of shimmer.
Last but not least, the earth-toned colors. Bianca's Coloring Book is another matte nude eyeshadow, but this one has more white and less pink in it. Anna's Tea Set is barely visible on my arm (the picture was taken indoors), but it is a very soft golden eyeshadow with a frosty finish that becomes clear on my skin when the sun is shining bright. Daniel's Teddy Bear is a beautiful orange-brown color and that color reminds me of clay pots. Tom's Stuffed Tiger is an earthy brown color with a pink finish that becomes clearer on my skin in the sun (once more). Kate's Puppy is a coffee brown color, as you can see on the swatch.. the left side is one layer and the right is two. What an intens color!
The eyeshadows have a smooth and velvet feel to them, which is both a good and bad thing. It is good because it will not have much fall out, but it can be bad when I use a color that is not very pigmented on my skin, for example "Bianca's Coloring Book", I will have to add a couple of layers to get a deeper or brighter color. It is true that the eyeshadows stay on all day without creasing or fading much (especially in combination with a good primer). I am very happy with this palette, the thinness of the palette makes it easy to take with you when traveling and it has such a wide variety of colors that it could be the only palette you need to take with you. No single eyeshadows needed. So, for the occasion of traveling I think they are pretty amazing. In general, I would say the palette also contains beautiful colors, especially some of the shimmering ones (Scott's Skateboard, Staci's Bracelet, Maureen's Soccer Ball, Erica's Dollhouse and so on- strange names right? Apparently, the Tarte Cosmetics staff named the colors after their childhood memories).Which colors do you like the most? And which of the 4 groups of eyeshadows would you use the most? The blue-toned group, green-toned, purple-toned or brown-toned?
