Yes, I know it is a Tuesday, but like I said.. this week you can expect an article related to "The Tarte of Giving" each day of the work week! Now it is time for the first section of my "The Tarte of Giving" beauty travel bag. Let us not waste time and quickly get ahead with learning more about the products; after all, there is much to talk about.
This see-through toiletry bag has five items in it, perfectly positioned because of the plastic holder inside. My first impression was "meh" that looks OK-ish. Yes, I know I was majorly excited about the travel bag itself, but now it is time for the content and I have to be critical! The first item is the Pure Maracuja Oil. I had no idea what that was, but I liked the small bottle it came in. The combination of purple and gold works really well for me and I think it gives off a classy and luxurious vibe. The Maracuja Oil is supposed to give you a brighter, smoother and more balanced-looking face by targeting and moisturizing your problem zones. Tarte Cosmetics states the following:
Rich in essential fatty acids known to recharge and replenish skin, maracuja oil helps deliver an overall rejuvenated and even-toned complexion while giving the appearance of brighter skin thanks to a high dose of vitamin C. This powerful anti-aging elixir provides instant hydration—quenching dry skin with no greasy or filmy feel.
The oil comes from the maracuja fruit found in the Amazone. Did I also mention it is a 100% vegan product? I mean, I do not know what to think! It is so exotic and feels so special. Time to open it up and try it, don't you think so too?
After opening the small bottle I realized the golden bit was a pipette (a pipette allows you to transport something liquid per drop) and I thought that was cool, because it was something I did not have yet. The oil smells like something I have never smelled before, but it is not off-putting at all. According to the directions I have to place 2 or 3 drops in my hand, rub it and then apply it to my face. I did this every night before going to bed for two weeks now. According to Tarte Cosmetics the results become clear for most women after 6 weeks. So for now all I can say is that I am pleased with the product. It makes my skin feel soft and smooth after applying it. It feels slightly oily, but mainly soft. The most notable change so far is that my rosacea-suffering cheeks have become less dry and the product has not worsened my rosacea. This makes me really happy and I look forward to continuing with the product. In 4 weeks I will give you an update on this product, but I can safely say already that this is something I would like to buy! Click here for more information on the Pure Maracuja Oil.
The second product in the first section of my "The Tarte of Giving" beauty travel bag is the Flush Cheek Stain. I was not very amazed with the appearance of the product, because it looks a bit boring and perhaps slightly cheap (but it is not cheap), but I think this is only the case because it is meant for the gift set. If you buy this as an individual item it looks completely different and far more appealing. This cheek stain has a gel-like consistency and is quite sheer, which immediately reminded me of my Catrice Blush Tint except that the swatches of this cheek stain are much softer in pigment and has a bit more pink in it. Moreover, Flush contains a blend of the five most antioxidant-rich fruits so it moisturizes your cheeks whilst giving it some color.
As you can see, you have to take the cap off and twist the product up. This did not go very smoothly, but let me not be nitpicky. The blush has a bit of a fruity (lemony?) scent to it, but it is very subtle and after a while I do not notice it anymore. I love the color and the effect that this cheek stain has. It is similar to my Catrice Blush Tint, because it gives you a healthy glow and color to your face. It appears like you just pinched yourself in the cheeks and gotten some color from it (you know, like the ladies used to do back in the day... euhm, centuries ago). At least, this is a less painful way to get the same glow and it is nourishing at the same time. It also stays on your cheeks for hours and hours, so I am very pleased with the product. Lights, Camera, Lashes is the third item from the toiletry bag. I love the original name as it sounds much more special than just - oh, I don't know - mascara. The product looks really good and it reminds me a bit of crocodile skin, which makes it look rather special. I mean, I would never actually wear crocodile skin - don't get me wrong here - but that is just what it reminds me of and in this case - knowing it's not real - it looks cool as a mascara. This is supposed to be a 4-in-1 mascara that is like a "push-up bra" for your eyelashes, because it will lengthen, curl, volumize and condition your lashes. I am happy to read that it conditions your lashes, because they are fragile and we should take care of them.. but whether they are really lengtening, curling and volumnizing... well, I will have to put that to the test.
The mascara has a bristle brush that is really easy to use. The brush lengthens the lashes and there is also a bit of a curling effect, but what really amazed me is how it separates your eyelashes. I think this is the only mascara so far that I have tried that repeatedly separates my lashes so nicely. So that to me is a major plus. A lot of mascaras that are supposed to give your eyelashes more volume end up giving you messy spider-like eyelashes, but I can't say Lights, Camera, Lashes does the same. Unfortunately, it does not give me enough volume or any at all for that matter. It is not what I want from a mascara, so that to me is a bit of a let down, especially because it separates so well. Therefore, this product would not be something I would buy myself. However, if you prefer length over volume and also desire beautifully separated eyelashes then I certainly do recommend it! I do not usually go out and buy myself an eyecream, but I was very interested in the Maracuja C-brighter Eye Treatment. Especially because, like with the Maracuja Oil, it looked beautiful, luxurious and it had that connection with nature (the lid). All positive first impressions. Apparently, this product is supposed to refresh, renew and recharge tired eyes. Tarte Cosmetics explains that:
by harnessing the power of maracuja fruit, vitamin C and advanced botanicals, this skintuitive™ eye treatment visibly hydrates, firms and brightens the delicate eye area. This intense, multi-tasking eye treatment contains rice bran, mango and coconut naturally-rich in antioxidants to fight signs of aging and free radical damage. Oat sugars instantly smooth and visibly tighten skin. The nutrient-rich formula also delivers the ultimate in hydration for smooth, youthful-looking eyes.
Perhaps not the most hygienic packaging (a pot), but it contains a really rich cream that does not feel greasy underneath my eyes at all. Because it is so rich you only need a little bit to get a nice cooling effect on your eyes. I can straightaway feel the tightening a bit, but I have not seen any difference though. Not only does it moisturize really well, but it has made my skin underneath my eyes very soft. I have only been using it for about two weeks now and I can not say that I have seen a brightening effect yet, but like with the Maracuja Oil I will give an update on this product! This is a great product to use if you have sensitive eyes, but would I buy this myself? Well, that will depend on if it actually brightens my dark under-eye circles.. so, I will get back to you on that one! In the mean time, for more information click here.
The final item is the Tarte Blush Amazonian Clay and the name of the blush is "Memorable". It comes in a pink plastic-looking box, which to me looked like make-up for kids I bought when I was 12 years old, so that was not very appealing. But I do like the simpleness and the design, so I will not focus too much on the fact that it looks plastic. According to Tarte the blush is:
a long-wearing, supremely soft blush infused with Amazonian clay harvested from the banks of the Amazon River and naturally baked by the sun.
Well, that sounds quite special, right? Not only is the product supposed to last for 12 hours, but it also minimizes oil around pores to keep your skin in balance and hydrated. That seems like asking a lot of blush, but I do not mind being impressed.
The color is a deep rosy pink with one layer and becomes deeper and intenser when you add more layers on top. As you can see there's a bit of a soft shimmer in there as well. I did not have such a pink blush yet, so I just hoped it would not make me look like a clown. Luckily, the effect is quite beautiful. You only need a little bit of the blush to create a beautiful romantic look. The blush did not fade away at the end of the day, so it is safe to say that it is definitely long-wearing. After removing my make up in the evening, my cheeks did not feel dry but I think that is more because of the wonderful effect of the Maracuja Oil. However, this blush is another product I am satisfied with and I would surely love to try other colors from this collection! For more information on the Amazonian Clay Blush, click here.
All in all, color me impressed. I am really amazed with the first section of my "The Tarte of Giving" beauty travel bag and have immediately become a fan of Tarte Cosmetics. If only they sold it here, le sigh. Unfortunately, this beauty travel bag is no longer available via Tarte Cosmetics, but you can find it online e.g. Amazon or find it in Sephora if you are fortunate enough to live in North America! Or if you are interested in the individual items, then click on the links added to each product. My favorite product of the first section is the Pure Maracuja Oil, because I have never experienced such a product before and it has had a positive notable effect on my face within two weeks already. My least favorite product would have to be the mascara, but only because it is not what I want. I want something that gives more volume and the mascara separates your eyelashes beautifully and gives them more length, which is also quite wonderful.. just not what I want/need the most! I should also add that these are all vegan and "healthy" beauty products, so you will not find any paraben (and the likes) in there! Now it is your turn! What do you think of the first part? Which products appeal the most to you, and why?
